Dragon Cafe
Serving New Orleans Every Sunday
A Hot Meal. A Kind Word. A Place to Belong.
For nearly 20 years, Dragon Cafe has welcomed New Orleans neighbors every Sunday with a hot breakfast, a smile, and a place to belong. Many of our guests may not have heard their name spoken aloud in kindness all week—here, they are greeted, known, and valued. Founded by members of St. George’s Episcopal Church after Hurricane Katrina, Dragon Cafe has grown into a community-wide effort, open to all and 100% volunteer-run.
This year, your support is more important than ever. Dragon Cafe is almost entirely funded by private donations like yours. On average, we serve about 75 hot meals every Sunday morning, with close to 4,000 meals served last year. Every dollar you give helps us keep our promise: no one eats alone in New Orleans.

How Your Donation Helps
Dragon Cafe’s mission is to nourish bodies and spirits by providing a hot meal, a kind word, and a welcoming community to anyone in need—no questions asked. We believe in the power of generosity, dignity, and human connection to change lives. Every Sunday, our volunteers serve breakfast and hope, creating a space where everyone is greeted by name and treated with respect
Our Mission
Without your support, Dragon Cafe may have to reduce the number of meals we serve, leaving neighbors hungry and without a reliable source of nourishment. Inaction means more than empty plates—it means lost connections, increased isolation, and the end of a tradition that has brought hope to New Orleans for nearly 20 years.
What Inaction Means
Our volunteers come from all walks of life—about half are St. George’s members, and the rest are neighbors who want to make a difference in our community. The Dragon Café is about more than food. It’s about comfort, connection, and the relationships built around sharing a meal. Guests and volunteers alike find a sense of belonging and community at our tables every Sunday.

Morning Call
Morning Call started Sept. 6, 2023. It was the vision of the Parish Administrator, Andrea North, who came to St. George’s with a long history of mutual aid and disaster work. What started as being an open concept safe place for the community to gather daily has grown into a safety net for many members of New Orleans vulnerable communities.
The Morning Call Outreach program offers a comfortable gathering place mornings Mondays-Thursday 9am-10:30am in the Parish Hall of St. George’s. Besides the use of clean restrooms, a safe place to rest inside away from the elements, the ability to charge any devices and the opportunity to use the Sanctuary for reflection and prayer, we also offer the following:
-Coffee and water with a continental breakfast of pastries, fruit and either grits or oatmeal.
-A resource table with information on 12 step meetings, food resources, shelters and other services for those facing housing and/or food insecurity.
-Once a week services/resources that individuals may sign for, that may include RTA passes, food bags, hygiene items and clothing.
-Our over 90-degree/under 40-degree policy. When the temperature is very high/low if staff are on site and no events are scheduled, we open the parish hall to community members in need of cooling/heating.
-Storm/Hurricane support: Each year working with St. George’s Episcopal School and donations we have kept emergency “go-bags” on hand for when there is a large weather event. During/after these events we try to assist those in need in finding shelter, supplies and information as needed.
-Partnering with other organizations to offer services/resources for the community. Legal Advocacy, haircuts, food giveaways etc.
-Holiday meals: We try and have a hot larger meal either on major holidays or just after it and if we can gather enough donations to have a supply give away.
-Pastoral and Research support: The Very Rev. Stephanie offers office hours when available during Morning Call for pastoral appointments and the office helps with research and limited printing for various applications needed.
How can you support Morning Call?
Donate Time (Volunteer): We welcome volunteers in both the kitchen setting up and cleaning up for breakfast and volunteers who would like to engage with the community. The relationships we build with the community members support them in their journey.
Donate Supplies: Clothing, Hygiene items, pantry items are all in need all the time. Even taking time and posting in the local Buy Nothing groups and other neighborhood groups and collecting items for us is much appreciated. We have an Amazon List of Morning Call items to purchase here: https://a.co/9WuUFd2
Donate $$:
The Rector’s Discretionary fund supplies Morning Call with one ride RTA passes and 31-day senior passes that we distribute weekly. When needed, the RDF will assist with out-of-stock hygiene items and socks.
The St. George’s Feeding Ministry funds the food we supply that isn’t donated from other sources.
Either fund can be donated online via the QRC code (choose the drop-down menu for which fund you wish to donate to) or you can donate in person via check or cash. Just note that you wish to support the Morning Call.
